Captain's Table - Fall Action

Finally caught a break with a stretch of good weather and was able to get in back-to-back charters this past Thursday and Friday.

Thursday’s group of Cathy and her friends wanted a local bay trip for a half day and the weather was truly stellar. Mild temperatures, a light breeze, and plenty of Porgies to keep the rods bending all morning. In addition to boxing 30 nice keepers John also added a pretty 15” Kingfish to the mix.

Friday saw Dave and his friends doing a pre wedding family get together with a ¾ day trip. Despite the great conditions and solid drift to start out with both Plum Gut ad the Race seemed to be totally devoid of Bluefish action. Very strange. Headed back to the mid Sound where we finally did locate some decent action with the local “Gators” on diamond jigs, landing 6 fish up to 10#.

Then it was off to my favorite Sea Bass drop for the slack water period. The biscuits were waiting and hungry and in the last 90 minutes of the trip the guys boated 12 nice keeper Sea Bass to 3.5# among many more shorts and a few Scup. A strong finish for this very enthusiastic group!

Next up Tog starting this coming Friday in the Sound and just hoping the weather cooperates as I have 4 in a row lined up to begin the season. Best of luck to all the Blackfish enthusiasts out there!
