Captain's Table - Holiday Weekend Quick Shots

While many folks tried to cram as much fun as possible into the Labor Day weekend, I did my best to help 2 crews looking for a good time in a short window. So, that called for 2 half day trips, one on Saturday and the second one today.

Brad and his 4 buddies from PA were looking to load up on Sea Bass to feed their respective families who were gathering for a big Holiday fish fry. The biscuits were happy to oblige and my favorite deep drop on the north side of Plum continues to be the gift that keeps on giving! Lotis of fish caught, and a bunch of sorting took place, but the guys got the job done finishing the brief afternoon trip by putting 20 tasty Sea Bass in the box to 3#.

Today I had a small crew of Marc and his girlfriend Alex from NJ. They did not want to take anything home to eat but told me they wanted a real physical workout with some hard fighting fish. My choice was simple with the Gut being loaded with lots of ornery Bluefish. As soon as the flood tide started to move the Blues were all over our bucktails with one or two fish on the line every pass. Early on the Blues were about 5-6# class fish but as the tide picked up steam the crew were forced to really step things up decking a couple in the 10# range. After about 90 minutes of non-stop action, they cried “Uncle”, and we headed back to the dock with a nice cool ride on flat seas.

Hoping for at least one more crack at the Montauk Fluke this month if the weather patterns allow. My intel says the bite has improved a bit now that the offshore groundswells have passed. I am looking hard at the next 6-7 days and have at least one angler who is very anxious to get his last shot in at the big flatties as well. If you are flexible and interested in a late season Montauk run, please give me a call.
