Well-Known Angler
Yesterday I had Angelo and his 2 grandchildren Elias and Avery aboard for a half day bay trip. Elias, now 8 y/o already proved his prowess at catching Porgies last year on his very first fishing trip ever. He picked right up where he left off despite a very steamy morning on Peconic Bay. I had to keep cool towels on the necks of the kids for some relief but both Elias and his sister did serious damage to the Scup population When we first arrived around slack water it was a steady stream of the "summer smalls" but as the flood tide turned on many more medium and even a few large Porgy found the fish box.
Then, just to keep the adults interested we tired a quick 90-minute slot for Fluke in Orent Harbor. Thankfully a decent breeze and good drift developed by then. Unfortunately, the Fluke action was still very slow with only 3 fish taken and one 19" keeper. Well at least the group will have a Fluke appetizer to go along with their grilled Porgy!
The kids were very camera shy on this trip, but I promise to post to nice photos next week as our Montauk Fluke runs begin on Tuesday. BTW, Tuesday's trip still has 2 spots open for anyone interested.
Tight lines and stay cool!!!
