Captains Table Reliable Bass Action

Had the Angelo party join me today for some "June Moon" Striper action. Although the bite today on the morning flood was not as hot as the ebb was Wednesday, the Party of 4 enjoyed pretty steady action throughout the tide. Angelo started things off quickly with a nice 31" keeper. Then the shorts took over for about an hour with at least one fish landed on most drifts. Towards the end of the second hour the bite started to shift to almost all Bluefish with 8 landed in pretty quick succession.

Knowing I needed to shake things up a bit if we were going to put more Bass in the box, I shifted the drift line considerably. That made the difference and in just 4 drifts we put 3 more keepers between 28-30" in the boat to fill our limit.

With about an hour left to the 6 hour trip I headed west hoping to find better Sea Bass action and perhaps a little less tide than I was battling on Wednesday. Although the tide was indeed lighter the number of Sea Bass interested in eating our baits was fairly small. Boxed 3 keepers up to 3 # plus a dozen nice sized Scup to 2.5#. All in all a successful day for the group as everyone went home with plenty of fresh fish to enjoy.

BTW. Joh, Live Bait, obviously I saw you this morning but was very focused on trying to produce for my customers, hence I did not stop to chat. I hope you caught your dinner as well.
Capt. Mike

PS: Sorry no pics today as it was pretty foggy all morning and the crew was a bit "camera shy"!

I did see you Capt. Mike, knew you had a charter on board & it wasn't the time to chat. Although I didn't come home with dinner, I did hook up with a bass that looked like it was well over 40" while trying to slide her into the net I managed to get my landing net tangled in the hook, & while trying to free it pulled the hook out of her lip. I guess it saved me the trouble of lifting he fish into the boat & then back over the side to revive her.

Even though you had to do the "long distance release" that's still a very respectable Bass, John. Congratulations!
Since it is obvious we both fish similar areas I'm sure we will have at chance to chat on a future outing.
Stay safe out there and tight lines.
