Despite the ominous forecast for today, I was determined to catch a Sea Bass or 2 for dinner since I have not had the opportunity to give it a try yet this season. My plan was to do a little Fluking in the morning in the Bay while waiting for the Full Moon tide to lose a little steam out in the Sound. Of course, Mother Nature had a different plan. About 15 minutes into my first drift the sky opened up with a good soaking rain that lasted over 30 minutes Looking at the radar on board as well as on my phone I was surrounded! So, the Fluke portion of my trip was spent sitting in the wheelhouse and watching my rod get good soaking in the holder!
Fortunately, both the tide window and the brief, decent weather windows coincided and by 10 am the rain began moving east. So, I made my way up to a favorite drop north of Plum but when I arrived the end of the flood was still really cranking. Popped off a few rigs on the drift but no hits. Moved a little further north but was faced with the same challenge there. So, I headed back to my original drop, put down the hook and waited for the tide to back off. As it did, the Sea Bass bean to bite. With our new 16.5" regulation I had to do a lot more sorting than last year, but the 90-minute period of reasonably fishable tide provided my 3 fish limit among at least a dozen other shorts.
So, ultimately mission accomplished! Fresh Sea Bass paired with the first harvest of Harbes Super Sweet Corn on the Cob sure tasted great!
