Captain's Table - "Soupy Monday"

Had my friend Sal join me on my day off in an attempt to make a triple play of Stripers, Sea Bass, and Fluke. Early morning “pea soup” made the trip east into the Sound a very slow go.

Had planned to stay local at the Gut so I could test some nearby Sea Bass drops but after 90 minutes with no Bass to show forced a change in plans. Fog started to lift just a bit so we pushed further east to the Race and found better action for the last 2 hours of the flood. Decked 4 Bass and dropped anther 2 although the ones we caught today were either under or over slot. So, no Bass for the box.

Now, having missed the slack water period I had planned to devote to Sea Bass we instead headed back into the bay to try for the elusive Fluke. While the action was not great we did manage to cull 2 decent keepers out of 7 other shorts along with a pair of Weakfish as a bonus.

With almost no breeze inside it was pretty darn hot this afternoon. I can’t imagine what it’s going to feel like later this week when the real heat wave arrives. If nothing else, I hope it “heats up” the Fluke fishing!
