Captain's Table Special Gift

Saturday’s half-day charter for the Stan party was a Father’s Day gift from his son and daughter, Taylor and Claire. Taylor’s spouse, Mary-Kate and Claire’s boyfriend Glenn rounded out the five-person crew. While these folks are experienced boaters, they admit to not having fished all that often in the past. I think today’s action lit a fire under this great group of people that can only be quenched by many more fishing trips down the road.

We started in Noyac Bay where the Weakfish action has been very consistent since early May. Although the overall numbers are not as high as they were earlier this season and the average size is down the continued availability of this crowd-pleasing species is still very satisfying. Claire started things off with a nice 3# fish on the very first drift and we picked away regularly with a mix of keepers and shorts over the next 2 hours until we had boxed our boat limit on Weaks.

Next, it was one stop shopping for the prolific Scup off Shelter Island and as soon as the chum pot hit the bottom the fish started flying over the rail. Being true conservationists, the group only kept a dozen of the largest Porgies to around 2.5#. A quick look at the faces of this very happy family let’s you know they really hit a home run with their Father’s Day gift this year.

To top things off they sent me a photo of their grill as they were assembling some killer fish tacos using today’s catch. As we all know, it isn’t always about the size of an individual fish or the number in the box at the end of the day. It is about the terrific family memories generated on a special day like this.

Capt Mike-
GREAT pictures of some very happy customers.
That's an awesome reminder that its all about having quality time with people that are special.
When people ask me what I'm fishing for my stock is answer "To spend time with my son instead of mowing the lawn!!" 8-)8-)8-)
