Well-Known Angler
The Captains Table began her 2021 quest for Tog yesterday in nearly summer like conditions with the very fortunate crew of Anthony and his buddies. They are big fans of jigging for Blackfish so we only worked my shallow drops in an effort to please this group of dedicated anglers.
First stop in a favorite cove about 20’ of water on the CT side of the Sound start of the ebb tide. Initially a few small Sea Bass, a keeper biscuit or two, then some Scup, and finally the Tog began to chew. Did a lot of sorting but over a 3-hour period we managed to put 7 keepers including a couple of 5# and a 6# beauty in the box.
As the bite tapered off, we headed east to another drop I like in about 35’ of water by Fishers I. to finish off the ebb tide. First drop here saw a lot of Sea Bass, with several more keeper biscuits, and a couple of keeper Tog. Made one last shift in the same vicinity and on this drop it was all Tog. Another 5#+ fish joins the party then, near the end of the trip while I was busy filleting the catch, Dave hooks and lands the best fish of the day a nice thick Tog just shy of 7# on the scale. So, my streak of limit catches from last season has ended but we came darn close within only one fish shy of making the mark. Tally at the end of the day was 14 Tog with 4 between 5-6.75# and 7 nice Sea Bass. Lots of good eats there!
I have only 2 weekends left open for Blackfish if you cannot break free during the week. Sat, Sun 11/20,21 and Fri, Sat, Sun 11/26,27,28, the Thanksgiving weekend closer to our season. If the pattern is the same as last year, which so far seems to be the case, we will be filling the box right up to the end. Good time to give me a call.
