Took advantage of this week’s one day window to run a charter for Tony and his 2 friends Carl and Alex. Originally had planned to head east but the lingering northerly breeze in the morning and a sloppy Sound had me going back to my old reliable CT drops.
Set up on the 50’ reef for end of the flood and first 2 hours of ebb. Bite was nonstop from the start with Tony landing the first 16.5” keeper and Carl following suit with 17” fish. Many, many more shorts until Carl finally hits a solid 4.5# fish and hopes for additional keepers began to grow. But the short parade was overwhelming today and by the time the tide blew us off this piece we only had 5 keepers in the box.
Moved inshore to hide from the tide and as has been the pattern this season on this drop it was a slow bite with mainly some shorts and only 3 more keepers added to the box to 18” for another 2-hour effort. Headed back to the reef for the slower portion of the ebb current but for the first time in many years the bite seemed to almost turn off completely. So, we ended the day with only 8 keepers, one shy of the limit for the 3-man crew out of about 85 total Tog caught. The guys all had a blast but personally this will motivate me to work even harder next trip out…if the wind allows it!!!
