Parent company maybe. Not the bastards at Hassett LOL ! I think what I will do is compare AAA price with Subaru's, see if Subaru will reduce price at all, and decide if its worth the risk of a third party vs. the higher price...
 
We really like Anthony Desantis in Sales. He sold us our 2014 Crosstrek but then left for some Mercedes dealership. When we got an offer to trade in for the 2019we found out he had returned and he sold us the 2019 (for a good deal due to the trade-in having such low mileage as usual.) He is still there and texted yesterday that he would have their business guy contact me regarding extended. I have not one but two ridiculous stories about the ineptitude of the service department, and unless its a warranty or a recall will not go there. In 2010 when looking for a small pickup, some old guy at Hassett (or was it still Wantagh Ford then) didn't even bother to look up where a 4WD Supercab Ranger could be gotten. Stevens Ford got that sale and our sales guy was a fanatic weakfisherman.

A little off topic but these new cars require an oil change every 7k miles. Should I stick with that? I always changed my oil every 3k.

My owners manual has 7500 miles full synthetic and they have a 100,000 powertrain warranty....so why not. Just remember to check that dipstick once in awhile for disappearing oil


so my wife just waiting to have my oil changed and they stickered it for 3000 miles and yet full synthetic. I called them just now and asked them to check with the mechanic what he put in there as I don't want to fry my engine. Guy says full synthtic but the computer is spitting out stickers wrong.....got that answer once before. If true he should have told my wife that.....truth is you have no idea what oil they put in unless you send it to a lab but I'm too old to go under my car anymore
 
I have been using Mobil 1 synthetic since I got the 2010 Ranger in everything. Since I had a G-car for work most years until I retired in 2011 our mileage on either vehicle rarely exceeded 5K a year. I don't even have 30K on the big boy toy Ranger yet which is only used to drive to the boat ramp a whole mile and a dozen times a year out east hunting. I use a decent oil filter and still personally change both the Subaru and the Ranger just once a year, never entering over over 3.5K on either of the maintenance logs I keep. I did get the free oil change the dealerships want you to get after they are new but I bet with my limited mileage they are just throwing away good oil and filters. Why change the oil myself? Yes, I change it for just $30. but the real reason is that years ago I caught two different stations charging me for a new filter when the "X" I put on them was still quite visible. When my son and I watched X-Files together for years, I had a "Trust No One" tee. When I worked for Uncle our unofficial motto was "Trust in God, All Others We Investigate."
Sorry Wader about digressing. I am waiting for the AAA to give me a quote, and then the dealer.
 
Dear gawd are we still stuck on the JiffyLube 3000 mile oil change model?

Follow the manufacturer's recommendations FFS. I do 10K changes on the VW with synthetic, per VW's recommendations and have zero issues.

BTW, it's a timing belt engine and I get to check the cam for wear every 60K miles. 100K miles on this cam with no signs of anything.
 
Why? Quite happy with hunting 56 miles away and a round trip to the boat ramp for kayak or boat is less than a mile. Add a dozen or so 30 mile local trips to surfcast and a few trips a year to lowes or hd and that sums up p/u usage. swmbo’s crosstrek gets just a little more use.
 
I'm not as diligent at checking the dipstick every time I put gas in my car so I think I'll go with the 5K interval. That works out to every 6 months for me and I'm more comfortable with that.

How often do you guys change transmission oil, filter, gasket?
 
When you get your oil changed check the dipstick and also check under your car the next day for leaks caused by plug not right or filter not right. I also use to check my filter if it was changed. A rag with gasoline wiped around a filter and voila it's new.

Marked my tires and many times caught monro muffler not rotating them as they were told .

The oil is the life blood of your engine...but in a box type shop like MONRO the least experienced person will do that.

So 3 years ago my SONATA has 8000 miles and gets an oil change at MONRO. Next day I'm 5 miles down the highway and see that my temp is in the red!!! Big pool of oil under the car......call AAA but its ZERO degrees out and they don't answer due to dead battery calls galore. State police calls a tow truck and i bring it right back to MONRO and tell them to check the plug. They changed the oil again and a new filter and it ran but was "TICKING" so the next day I told the manager the engine is compromised. Bottom line is it cost them 6 grand to have my dealer put in a new engine because I wasn't going to let them. So what happened?? They DOUBLE GASKETED the oil filter. You are supposed to clean off the old gasket.....but BILLY BOB HUCKLEBERRY didn't!!!

Once got a vehicle back with hand tightened lug nuts....not happy about that either....a firestone shop

this good year place i go to now.....I walked for 20 years because they pissed me off with BS...THE SONS RUN IT NOW AND ARE GETTING ON MY NERVES ....Dealers can be just as bad......but there are many good places if you can find them
 
I have always brought my cars to the dealer until the warranty expires. Anything that goes wrong, its on them. they are very quick to void warranties.
