Decided to rent a skiff from Jack's B&T. Headed to my usual haunts. Dropped my first line at 06:45 and by 07:15 I had about a dozen cookie cutter fluke. All about 15-16" in size. I bought 3 packs or spearing and it seemed like I went thru 1/2 of my first pack in the first hour or so. Bite slowed down after that. Contemplated going to other spots but was not dressed warmly enough and the stiff East breeze made me stick to my original spot. I generally don't leave fish to find fish. The bite continued throughout the day and I never lost my drift even during slack tide. My Spro outproduced my traditional squid/spearing set up (fishing 2 poles) but as the tide picked up I had to switch over as I wasn't holding bottom. Snagged a fluke in the middle of the back, dark side and had what I thought was a doormat. How I managed to snag one like that I'll never know. Then finally at about 11am a nice fish for the cooler.... 23" another hour later his twin brother. I thought the outgoing would have produced better than the incoming but it was back to the 15-16" fish for the remainder of the day. Must've caught about 30 of them if not more. Never caught so many short fluke in all my years of fishing that are. The one fluke had 2 mantis shrimp in the belly that were about 8" long. Great day on the water.
