City Island

Well I took a ride down to City Island today to break the monotony of my daily Covid19 routine. Nothing doing at Turtle Cove, which was a bit surprising. This is usually a decent early season spot for schoolies
and flounder alike. But not today for some reason. As I approached the circle and headed toward the bridge I noticed a pack of 5-6 guys carrying fishing poles scurrying across the road. From the looks of it they were headed to fish off the shore from the east side of the City Island Bridge. That spot is popular among most shore fishermen since the west side of the bridge is where the bulk of the new bridge construction has taken place. If I had to venture a guess I’d say flounder and schoolies were probably their intended targets. I continued on and passed by Island Bait, which was well lit inside and had an illuminated “Open” sign in the window. I continued down City Island Avenue past jacks which was also well lit and I’m guessing open for business. Although they had a statue in the front door blocking from anyone from heading inside. If you are looking for bait there I’d suggest calling first. You could probably pick it up around back. Joe Bridge at the marine supply shop had the buoy hanging out, which means he is open for business. So if you need any supplies you know where to get em. I headed over towards the back of the island to take a look over towards Hart Island. As many of you know the city is now burying Covid19 victims over there. Didn’t see the ferry and the island looked kind of spooky.

This whole pandemic has touched each of our lives in many ways. Some good, such as getting to spend more time with those we love and with less distractions, and some bad. For those of us that have the ability to get outdoors and enjoy this great sport of ours we must realize that we are truly lucky. I am looking forward to getting back on the water and setting that hook.

Tight lines! Be safe & Healthy!
