Got out mid morning & headed for the flood tide in the Gut, beautiful spring morning. Got to the grounds & the N/W was blowing a cold wind. With wind against tide the conditions weren't ideal. Had trouble getting the bucktail on a three way to work the way I wanted, & with the tide moving so much faster that the boat, couldn't find the bottom with the flutter spoon. Stuck it out with the three way & put one 30" bass on the deck with the only hit. Conditions being what they were, should have called it a day, but a rip in the Peconic was calling. Ran the 10 miles, or so, & couldn't believe how much more comfortable it was out of that wind. That rip gave up three shorts & as soon as I decided I had had enough, the DEC pulled up. Very polite & professional, Boat reg, saltwater fishing registry & a safety inspection, all good, not so much as a ATTA Boy & they were on to the next boat. All & all a good day.
