News is out that the Party boat Klondike has been sold ........
Klondike had been owned and run by Pete Pearson , who just might have been the hardest working Capt in the NY Metro region .......
All Bluefish season long "PP" would usually leave the dock early with a boat load of Fishermen ............ Work his tail off whether in Long Island Sound or 'down below ' in the ocean to try and load the coolers for his fares ......."PP's " enthusiasm for catching Bluefish was contagious , as his loud air horns signaled fishermen to start working their jigs ...... His voice BOOMING over the PA system to crank hard 'ten fast turns ' will always be remembered by many .....
As a fellow boat owner / Capt , I will always be grateful and remember how generous PP was in sharing his knowledge and secrets , A TRUE leader in the Jig Fisheries .........
What a sight , day after day to watch the Klondike railed with people working their butts off to catch fish ...
Congrats to "PP" for a GREAT career , this fellow fisherman [ who shall remain nameless ] will always admire and be thankful to this icon of the Partyboat Industry .....

Hey Scupper,

That is news and both Petes were amazing fishermen. One of the best trips I ever fished was the first time Pete Sr. took fares tuna fishing. We were lining up brand new Shimano's on the way to Hudson Canyon. "Mom" was cooking breakfast and the seas were like glass. We dropped to hook and it started within minutes. Bluefin over 200-pounds were being hit with a 1/2 dozen gaffs almost immediately. This was at a time there was no limit, and it lasted all day long. Pete Sr. was up top screaming at us wimps to reel faster. Then we'd hear "hit him with another gaff." I will never forget it.

I witnessed it all on that trip. Imagine 20-people all hooking up with 200 plus bluefin at the same time! It was mayhem - and heaven at the same time. We ended the day with 4-300 plus big eyes. I dopped mine after 1/2 hour!

There's a guy on this board - Steve -that was with me and I know he has some pics of that trip. He was/is very good friends with Pete. We used to keep a 17-whaler tied up there. Do you know if the boat is staying there?

I hope he did well and I wish them nothing but the best.

Boat will stay in New Rochelle ..

One trip for tuna , seas got so big , the entire pulpit of the Klondike sheared off and was dangling by the anchor rope .. .They cut the anchor line and the pulpit sank ..........

My friend was on the boat. If I remember correctly, they lost the pulpit coming around Montauk Point.

I bailed on that trip , saw the forecast for a big cold front and stayed home , not sure were they were , always though on edge of the Hudson Canyon , but you could be right ......
PP has relayed back then that when that pulpit let go he wasn't sure if it tore a gaping hole in the bow .........

It didn’t change him though! On one trip that also blew 25 plus we get to Hudson and everyone else was pulling anchor headed back just as we were setting up. That was a long day! We caught, but we paid the price.

Somedays he would start down at Sandy Hook and end up going back up the river and east to Port Jeff ............... That boat covered a lot of ground ......
We banged boats often sitting on one pile of fish , his pulpit sometime would tower over my stern and several times his customers jigs landed on my deck .... All good fun ....

The Shamrock is a top notch operation. They were always huge supporters of mine. One of my better tog fishing days was on that boat. My brother booked it, and as usual he caught the poolfish. When I think back there were 3 of the closest people in my life there that day that have passed since. All of the people that helped me start the magazine were all there that day. Tom from Oyster Bay Marine talked about that trip for years.

We fished not too far from Rye, somewhere off of CT and we mohawked them all day long. One of those days that you thought you had the pool winner every time you hooked up, and then you saw bigger fish come over the rail on the other side of the boat. Great memories fishing for that dock.

Looks like lots of Tuna Blood on that cream puff of a boat ..... Years ago PP took the Dike down to Fla during the winters for some sword fishing and to have Lydia freshen up the boat ..........
