Couldn't Stop Myself

Ever do something that you knew was probably a mistake but you went ahead anyway. Yesterday was E/S/E 15, not the best wind for the east end, well I convinced myself that the run from Greenport to Plum Gut in the bay would be sloppy, buy once through the Gut & a little west in the sound should be fine.... Wrong. A 9 mile ride usually takes about 20 min. but took almost 1hr yesterday, time to turn around, nope I'm going blackfishing. Through the Gut & a few miles west in the sound wasn't as good as I had hoped, but fishable. After a few hours of bouncing around on the hook had three solid keepers in the box, no sea monsters but nice fish. Now for the ride home, almost as sloppy as the ride out, but this time with a following sea. Suprise, no other rigs at the launch ramp. Got home exhausted. Lesson learned,,,, till next time.

Whether Lund or Steiger, still see you pushing the envelope to get out there John! Was just up there for some blackfishing but was further west. Enjoy the reports now that I'm a lake fishing Carolinian. Be well, catch'em up.

Glad to hear your still wetting a line. Spent way too many windy days on the trailer this fall, I guess the other day I just got tired of it.

I agree, we like to think we learn, but do we?
I think I have, BUT being retired and only having to walk 100 yds to the dock means I have an extreme advantage; I've always got tomorrow. There have been times when I head out into the Gulf for ground fish and the conditions aren't comfortable and I bail.

The weirdest one was last fall when I was getting hit by waves coming from 3 different directions while jigging for cod. I wasn't in any danger, the waves weren't big enough, but it was just not fun fishing as I spent more time figuring out how to keep from getting knocked down to the deck then actually fishing.

Of course the Devil popped up on one shoulder, "What are you a wimp??? You've fished the Gut at night in worse conditions!!" and then the Angel popped up on the other, "Yes, Satan is correct, but heading out to the Gut meant a 1.5 hour trailer run and a boat launch on the only night of the week you could fish. Numnutz, you can fish any day you want to now!" and so ended one of the few times I actually listened to the Angel...
