Creek Chub Plugs

Stopped by a friend's house yesterday to help him launch his boat. On his garage bench he had about a dozen plugs. Most were mediocre but these two were standout. I asked him what he was doing with them and he said he didn't want them anymore and if I wanted any, take them. I have all the plugs I need but these two Creek Chub's were outstanding. Not a scratch on either one. A real score.

Those are beautiful and obviously in pristine condition.

I am not much of a collector, but I think those older Creek Chub plugs are collectible and might fetch a good price on the market.
That is unless you plan to use them. The jointed one must have some incredible action.

I am going to take a stab that those are Creek Chub "style" custom plugs. The first one has split rings connecting the hooks to the plugs. Older vintage plugs had the hooks directly connected. Meaning the hook ring was "clipped" and then closed onto the ring at the bottom of the plug. Also vintage plugs were treble hooks for the entire plug.

The lip on the second plug appears to be reinforced with the two screws to hold in in place. Looks rock solid.
You will have to try that plug and see what kind of depth it will reach on a retrieve.

I will be experimenting with plugs like these this year that can dive 11+ feet on a retrieve in the bay, around inlets, and along the ocean front.

These will dive to those depths, and notice the reinforced lip.

Thank you both for the information. Yes, these are in pristine condition. Although I don't believe these are anything special for a collector, they are really beautiful and will go on my display shelf along with other very unique lures.

Longcast, you are correct, the metal lip has two screws to hold the blade in and I agree with your assessment that they are not old, collector plugs but they look great.

Also need to make sure the jointed plug has a through wire and not a screw eye connecting both parts.

Nice plugs! I have a few older wooden Gibbs myself.
