Yesterday my wife was going to Osprey Dominion for a 5K run/walk. I went to the Port Jefferson fishing show. Al Goldberg was giving a talk, and I sat in on the discussion. Al had a tiny hook sharpener around his neck. He said it was a Diamond fishhook sharpener. I was small with a red handle and a single groove down the center, similar to the one at Tactical Fly Fisher Diamond Hook Sharpener-File. I have purchased a few hook sharpeners at local boat shops and have never been happy with them. I even tried a chain saw blade sharpen.
Anyway, when there was a knife sharpener discussion Knife discussion and Leprechaun recommended the 10" Dexter diamond hone, which I purchased and must admit works very well. In light of that a diamond hook sharpener makes sense. Plus, I like the stone on the sheath on my Cutco Fisherman's Solution is good, but not exactly perfect.
Can anyone recommend a good one? Also, sharpening in the hook sharpener groove makes sense. How do you sharpen the inside of the barb when the sharpener may not get too. Then again, the small one like Al had would probably get in there.
