Somebody filed a lawsuit a couple of years ago against the Port Authority accusing them of having sky high tolls that interfered with Inter State Commerce. A Judge dismissed the lawsuit saying it didn't interfere with Inter State commerce. When was the last time you went shopping over in NJ ??? You avoid going there as much as possible. Those Tolls are so high , the city people pour out to Long Island and crowd our roads every weekend. The Southern State/ Northern State / LIE is bumper to bumper thru the morning into the afternoon and then when they all return home .
It's all about the money, they give you hardly any discount off peak. They should let travelers going out of the City travel free or a few dollar toll during the overnight hours and get those travelers off the road before the rush hour. If somebody proposed re-routing I 95 outside NYC, The Port Authority would object.
NYC is too big and upstate NY isn't paying their fair share. Long Island gets squeezed in the middle.
