Fall Run Lower Hudson

I haven't really given fishing the fall run in the lower Hudson a fair shake before, I went out to the mouth of a major early this morning at high tide and threw out some leftover clam and started throwing some curly tail jigs on freshwater tackle. Had fun catching little 14 inchers consistently and got slammed by a 25 incher on the clam just before sunrise. Might be a resident schoolie but it's getting me in the mood to try to fish for some more stripers this fall in the river. I have fished in Nov when the water is real cold and had good action in the shallows with catfish before... but was using weird cheap baits like chicken livers that a striper probably wouldn't eat. Anyone have any experience on the river in the fall. you really never know what you'll pull out of there, even if most of the fish are small

I really don't fish there but if you're catching catfish there.
That means there's carp there. They're fun to pull on.
There's a variety of dough baits the carp will eat. BONZAI! :)

Some guy told me there are 20 lb carp out there in the same spot I was catching stripers. I've never caught one that big but do fish for them from time to time, they sure do fight hard!

CARP REMIND ME OF RED DRUM.

It's not that they're hard to catch. It's they're hard to find.
They are very cooperative aggressive feeders when you
can come across them. From my experience now is prime
time. SMALLMOUTH BASS ;)
