Me and my buddy got out Wednesday morning first light in search of Bass and Tog. I wanted to take advantage of the light winds and flat ocean so outside we went and headed east. Similar story so far for the FI inlet area this fall, some birds around but no real signs of surface action and no clear sand eel jig bite. Plenty of bunker and all the schools mainly sub-surface to the bottom. Ran East in 40-50ft searching for some signs of birds diving etc all the way to Ocean Beach, nada. Since we had the green crabs decided to run to the San Diego and tog for a bit while the tide switched. Fairly steady bite with a lot of short seabass and the occasional Tog. Ended up with 3 keepers, one 22" a personal best for me, after about 2.5hrs. Headed in shallow, 20-30ft, and searched for bunker. Stopped on a large pod just east of the inlet with a few other boats and live lined some bunker. Broke 1 off and boated a nice 33" slot after about 40min. Called it a day and headed to the dock as the wind picked up.
I hear there are still plenty of fish east all the way through Montauk. I'm hoping a larger body of fish still moves into the area and we can get more blitzing actions/jigging before the cold weather really sets in. We shall see.
