First Trip in The Peconic

live bait

Well-Known Angler
Got out this morning & main purpose was to give the boat a shake down after it's winter nap. Headed a little east & found action with four short bass, all returned, in a strong new moon tide. With about an hour left in the tide decided to leave the rip & hit a couple of weafish spots, where I didn't find any life. With the tide about over tried to bring a few porgies home for dinner, but by the time I got set up the tide was over the tide was dead slack. With no movement at all my chum pot, & baits were a feast for the spider crabs, not wanting to wait out the tide, time to call it & head for the ramp. A good first day on the water, with a very short list of things to square away on the boat. I found water temp of 53 Deg.

Well done, John. With all the Bass action to the west and last week's summer like temps I figured they would show up in the Peconic's pretty soon. In a few weeks there should be enough Porgies around that even the slack tide will find something other than the crabs attacking your hooks!

See you out there soon!:)
