First trip of year

Trailered my boat over to the ramp and launched there. The forecast for Wednesday 5/3 was 10-15 SW winds, it was like 25 knots . Not too cold , just too windy and it was wind against the tide. Main purpose of the trip was to test my outboard and see if the 5 inch shaft extension allows me to go fast and not slow down every time the prop breaks the surface and revs load. Worked perfect and my 25 Panga's top speed with 50 HP is 21 knots. Nice!
Maybe 2 hours left of outgoing tide, it was blowing 20-25 knots from the SW ( more W than SW), I started a drift for Fluke on the east side of the 3rd Wantagh to get out of the wind. Nothing . A guy was casting for Bass along the East Marsh ( 45 feet deep right next to the Marsh ! ) Didn't see anybody drifting for Fluke, the few boats I saw looked like they were going for bass or they were next to bridges . I brought out umbrella rigs rigged with shads and thought about trolling for bass in the bay. Read a report on here and some guy trolled the state channel with umbrellas and caught bass. Never trolled in the bay , always wanted to try it. Maybe next time I'll try trolling and I wanna cast plugs, this trip was too nasty. After being out there for 3 hours I just wanted to go home. Used squid and spearing, high low teaser rig , fished the Wantagh bridges and near the Jones Beach piers, nothing. Just a handful of boats out there, the fluke are probably on the shallows deep inside the bay in warmer water. Hard finding fish when nobody is out there and you don't know the area too well. I usually fish the Freeport Area, but now i fish the Wantagh area because the ramp is there. 52 degree water temp.
A dreadful start for the Fluke Season, glad I didn't go out Monday like I wanted. Tuesday was the same , I thought the wind would die down to 10-15 and it would be alright Wednesday. Bad forecast.
