Flounder/Blackfish

Really? No one has given NY Flounder or Blackfish a shot? Even if you tried and failed to harvest anything that's a valuable report. We were supposed to give it a shot today but wind against tide along with a forecast full of rain pushed it till next weekend. I hope someone has gotten out there to stir up the bottom. The Long Island Sound is calling me. Lol

Friends boat in Jbay. 4 hrs max
Lots of chum. Fresh bait. Hit a few good spots. They're either there or not.

I also prefer not to fish for tog in the spring.
I fish Jamaica Bay all the time.I have not heard or seen a flounder there in a long time.

A little too chilly for the Chincoteague this morning. Waiting for some more comfortable conditions.

Plenty of Bass being caught and released......

All who fish for Flounder in Jamaica Bay, try the Raunt Channel. It starts in Broad Channel or Floyd Bennett, how you would look at it. Fish the piece by Floyd and work your way back towards Broad Channel. I's between Ruffle Bar and if I remember , Little Egg Marsh. The bottom is all mud, try to start on the incoming, water is not that deep, around 15 at high, and if you get a perfect day:ROFLMAO:, no wind or tide, try a drift. Years ago this place held plenty of fish, ,today who knows. I used blood worms and mussels with corn for chum, it worked, found corn in their bellies. I would just cook the mussels a little, until they got hard, so they stay on the hook, put them in a jar with yellow food dye. The myth about not using corn for chum, is just that, they do digest it. Just my 2 cents - 🇺🇲❤️🇺🇲❤️🇺🇲

Some really nice flounder!! I miss fishing for them. Early age was Shinnecock Canal and from the banks of the Quogue Canal. Later was the waters of Moriches. Those were some great trips.

Best bet is to anchor a little down current from a wreck or Rockpile and chum. Probably get hounded by dogfish. I wish they'd outlaw all flounder fishing. Stocking flounder is the only way they'll bring the flounder back. They ain't swimming from another area to populate our bays. It's probably the best fish they could stock because they wouldn't swim away. Give it a shot, how would it hurt ? The DEC worried about disease , but they stock all over the state and it's never a disease problem up there. If you really went all out you could catch a flounder in every bay if you tried, so it's not like the water is poisoned and they can't survive. They , whiting, ling disappeared just like that in the early 90's , I ain't buying that environmental reason.

With the Bass around and boat traffic as well, I figure I'll have Friday and Saturday to give the winter flounder a good effort. Reports have not been good but I was always more reliant on log books than reports. Tide and water temps are good.

The Bass aren't going anywhere. They're actually in back by the airport which is an area I hate fishing. Too many boats, too many bad attitudes.

I will try bass fishing tomorrow, not sure if there are any fish east yet

Alot of wind yesterday so I made some calls.

My long time friend and fishing partner Capt. JR tells me bunker were scarce in Jbay yesterday. Holding deep. Hard to net or snag. Insane fishing in Raritan Bay right now.

Black fishing has been a pick but the ling were biting well to fill the void.

Seems like it's all just starting now.

Good luck out East and congrats on the new retirement gift!

My east of your location is Suffolk Nassau border

Overboard, are you talking about Kennedy Airport? Yeah it gets nuts back there, have to get there early, find your spot and anchor up. If your friends boat is in the bay, try Flounder fishing in the Pumpkin Patch. The water isn't that deep, but they use to be there.
