I kept checking the forecast yesterday to see if we were able to get out today. The storms held off and we were able to go fishing. I was not happy at all with the mates on board. I called for the net and they told me to swing it. It was 19 and the mate was annoyed that he had to measure it. Other mates were fishing. I managed two shorts the 19 inch and one that I didn't bother. There were shorts kept. Tangles all day long. Not happy at all.

Did you let the captain know well at least now you know not to go back on that boat

This will be 3 boats I won't go fishing on first 2 are the captain Dave in sheepshead Bay and the James Joseph in Huntington
Only 1 Party boat I'll never go on and that's the Capt. Al in Point Lookout. Had run ins with that guy over the years, shame because I have wonderful memories going night Blue fishing on the Al in the mid 1970's . a classic Party Boat run by a hot head. My father kept his boat on Woodcleft Canal around 1971 , we came back with a bunch of mackerel one time and my father short on cash told us little kids to sell mackerel on the street while he was working on his boat. Captain Al came over and said I know your father told you to sell these fish, but I'm going to have to call the police if you continue selling fish. We were 7-9 years old. Then years later I'm on his boat bottom fishing and he started the engine/tooted the horn to move to the next spot. I was in the bow , I placed my rod against the rail because the boat was packed with people/rods. It was away from the mate when he was pulling in the anchor . Al comes running out of the wheelhouse yelling at me because he thought my rod was too close to the mate. I said sorry and moved the rod. I moved to the other side of the boat to fish the other side, Al followed me to the other side and continued to argue with me like I did the most horrible thing ever. The mate looked at me after the outburst and had a little grin on his face like there he goes again.Years later I was fishing with my brother on the Hempstead Reef , just us and Capt. Al fishing the whole reef. We were anchored on the reef fishing and Capt. Al starts up and comes directly towards us like he was trying to intimidate us and at the last minute he turns and came very close to our anchor line like he wanted to cut it with his props. So disgusting that character.
Heard him talking with another Captain on the VHF , complained about all the plastic Boats , like how dare they compete with him or get in his way. Then one time I was on the Hempstead Reef fishing for Bluefish , probably 30 private boats fishing , Captain Al comes running out of the wheelhouse screaming at the top of his lungs at the private boats, get out of here, stay away like he wouldn't steam up to a fleet of private boats and do the same ???
Every Party boat I have ever been on , Both the Capt's and Mates have been very professional and courteous. Fished on the Viking Stars, The Peconic Queen, The Helen H, Starstream 2. the Aloma, the Miss Freeport, The Super Spray, The Capt. Hall, The Capt. Lou's, The Speedy out of Captree, The Pilot and several others. Of all the Captains/Mates. I'd say the Capt. Lou was the friendliest. They'd give you watermelon out on the water.

Every boat and captain has their bad days. Some have them more often than others.

Party/Charter fishing success is about developing relationships. Find a crew you like that catches fish consistently and you'll have more good days than bad. Go chasing reports and your destined for ALOT of bad days.
