Fluke regulations

The ASMFC stock assessment was encouraging for fluke so hopefully we'll get to keep a few filets for the table and freezer. The Stripers on the other hand was not good they are indeed in trouble.

Here is a sad fact. I harvested as many deer in 2018 as I did keeper fluke. and more deer than I did keeper stripers. My worst fishing season ever.

Seems kind of pointless when your neighbors work against you.

I’d love for them to do a study on how many of those shorts survive after being thrown back. I do my absolute best to make sure that I get them in the water as quickly as possible and introduce as little trauma to them as possible, but I’m sure there are some that just don’t make it. I wish they would change the regs a little. I’m thinking 2-3 fish and a 16.5” minimum, but what do I know lol.

I totally understand this. One keeper last year was a new low for me. The funny thing is I caught hundreds of fluke over the season. This is the lowest keeper to throwback ratio ever.

I would love to see BennyV's recommendation for size and a bag of 2 but the oceangoing guys and partyboat guys would howl like libtards on Tuesday, November 8, 2016 !

Howl ? I have talked at length with Bill Witchey at Combs Tackle and as he said the partyboats know that most of their fares, inshore at least, will NOT catch a keeper, but that they want to let them have the HOPE, as absurd as it is, that they will bring home four or five fish for their fifty dollar (or whatever it costs) fare. Needless to say the guys with the larger private boats, out in 40 feet of ocean water, for the most part, do not want to spend an hour getting out there, only to limit in ten minutes. And if people cull to get two larger fish, some of those they considered short will die when released...allegedly.
