Had a similar experience, it gets advanced through till barb is exposed then clipped, retrieved and bleed.
They did that at Coney Island hospital when i was 12yrs old, it was awesome.

So I keep this one as a reminder of my "hooked" experience. Amateur mistake trying to land a bass from a rock 100 feet from shore with an aggravated surf. Never allow the rod tip to line up with your face. In the endgame, keep the rod to one side. It was rough but I knew better. Rod fully flexed, tight drag, and a pissed off high 20 bass with a pencil popper in his mouth. Plug pops out, rod releases all that energy into my chin. Next thing I know is I am swimming, looking for my rod of course, and when I found it and started reeling, my face got pulled, LOL. Had another caster help break the hook, taped to my face and fished a bit longer. As one of the other posts in the report section said "never leave fish when you find them".

Eventually made it to the hospital and they could not push it through, so a quick shot and they cut it out.

They fixed me up and gave me some antibiotics.

Good times. :)
