I know it's a popular narrative on this site to complain about people fleeing high tax, high density NYC and NY in general, but the metro area had population gains, leading to a net NY population increase. On the other hand, there were steep declines in the rural areas, where folks like to keep things just the way they've always been.

"Almost all of the growth occurred in 12 downstate counties (828,346), led by New York City’s gain of 629,051 people, according to the analysis [of the census data] by the Empire Center, an Albany research organization.

It was a very different story in Upstate New York: All but 11 of the 50 Upstate New York counties experienced a population decline between 2010 and 2020."

Really? Quarter million left last spring but your probably right. A million crossed the border so far and guess who will give them a drivers license? No Joke.

They must have been brought here from the southern border , yeah better than the disaster of central America( why can't they fix their own? )our dopey liberal government gives them " free education, Healthcare ,housing , welfare , etc) who do you think pays for this stuff? If you don't think tax paying citizens do you are either nieve or mentally deficient. NY is total crap I can't wait to leave this bung hole. I will miss the bay, ocean and beach deeply ,however I will.never miss the disaster of the management of this state or the long winter. It's sad to say as it's My home but enough is enough.
