Reminds me of a professor I once had who was a stickler for hyphens. He was enraged when a paper of his was edited prior to publication and the final version had hyphens removed. In protest he wrote a letter to the editor and opined:

If you remove the hyphens from the sentence "Men chasing women" how are you sure who's having the fun???
