I guess you can say I'm antsy. Having missed a HUGE chunk of last year I'm itching to get on the water.
My boat prep is coming along rather nicely. Granted I store her indoors at work so I can turn the heat on next door and work whenever I like. I started working a couple of nights a week about two weeks ago.
For a change I decided to do all the mechanical work myself this year. As a former machinist I am mechanical but completely understand the difference between a machinist and a mechanic. YouTube is great for good tutorials!
I changed my thermostats, spark plugs, fuel filter(s), VST filter, and water pump. I never tried doing the VST or water pump before. Went rather easy, less one setback.

My surgically repaired shoulder is good. When dropping the lower unit I didn't remember to remove the 'hidden' bolt under the zinc. I removed all the other ones and tapped it with a rubber mallet. Moved, so I hit it harder. then heard a 'dink. dink, dink sound as a 4" long crescent moon piece went flying across the floor.
I was going to weld it myself, but I don't have any 4145 filler rod, and my aluminium welding (especially cast) is weak. I'll bring it to PennWeld for a quick repair. They made my top and did a great job. I'll probably do that one day this week.
Last night I replaced a piston on a hatch and latch for my cabin door. I also cleaner waxed the whole topside.
All that is left on my list is to reassemble the lower unit after welding, wax the topside and hull, paint the lower unit, trim tabs and prop. (Trilux 33 for the lower unit, Pettit Prop Coat for the trip tabs and prop) then touch up the bottom paint. Oh, and I'll change the lower unit gear oil after it is welded
I will be in the water the first week in April. If my marina opened earlier I'd be in by next week. I'll take off this weekend and do my yardwork. It will feel great to be the first kid on the block to have all his yard work and mulch done. ?
