Getting close..

My forecasts all show the only day being above 50 is the 15th, with rain. (Beware the Ides of March.) Before and after just 40s.

If it's gonna be wet with possible freezing at night, this would be the WORST time to pull the covers, as that rainwater will seep into cracks and then freeze/thaw/refreeze, etc.

No questions for me, I've got a 6' snowplow pile sitting in front of my boat. Hoping for a mid-April launch...

I am thinking next weekend if the weather cooperates.I have to run over to the boat yard for a short haul to get the bottom painted and pull my lowers for waterpumps and gear oil change.

see if you were down here - you'd already be in - that's assuming you pulled it in the first place........................
;)

Assuming you're man enough for boat ownership... ;)

Hanging curve, had to clobber it out over the left field fence!!! You have to stop putting an electronic "Kick Me" sign on your back there!!

I'll hope to spend a few days there this summer, want to see Onancock in all her glory, lol also want see how the fishing and crabbing is..

Years ago when there were Winter Flounder to catch I would be doing my prep in early March to be ready for St. Patty's day. During that time I was also young enough that I did not mind waiting for the perfect day to do some spring Codfishing. Sure there were times I would literally have to shovel snow off the deck and it was a bitch to get the wax off the hull in those temps.

At this stage of my life I am actually happy that most of our targeted species are not open, or available in enough numbers to start until May 1. I must say doing the spring prep work during the much milder and sunny days of April is much more civilized!

Reminds me of cracking ice in 'Pequa on the way out the canal to try for flounder back in the 80s or earlier. I stopped fishing for them completely by '99. In my neck of the woods there are only elusive stripers in the backbay in April and I don't bother with them at all. I "might" try some surfcasting in the inlet in April, but otherwise its May when I try for fluke and blues in the bay. April has become a good month to catch up on the gardens, get some exercise and start opening or little boat in the driveway and checking some tackle.

I guess you can say I'm antsy. Having missed a HUGE chunk of last year I'm itching to get on the water.

My boat prep is coming along rather nicely. Granted I store her indoors at work so I can turn the heat on next door and work whenever I like. I started working a couple of nights a week about two weeks ago.

For a change I decided to do all the mechanical work myself this year. As a former machinist I am mechanical but completely understand the difference between a machinist and a mechanic. YouTube is great for good tutorials!

I changed my thermostats, spark plugs, fuel filter(s), VST filter, and water pump. I never tried doing the VST or water pump before. Went rather easy, less one setback.
My surgically repaired shoulder is good. When dropping the lower unit I didn't remember to remove the 'hidden' bolt under the zinc. I removed all the other ones and tapped it with a rubber mallet. Moved, so I hit it harder. then heard a 'dink. dink, dink sound as a 4" long crescent moon piece went flying across the floor. o_O

I was going to weld it myself, but I don't have any 4145 filler rod, and my aluminium welding (especially cast) is weak. I'll bring it to PennWeld for a quick repair. They made my top and did a great job. I'll probably do that one day this week.

Last night I replaced a piston on a hatch and latch for my cabin door. I also cleaner waxed the whole topside.

All that is left on my list is to reassemble the lower unit after welding, wax the topside and hull, paint the lower unit, trim tabs and prop. (Trilux 33 for the lower unit, Pettit Prop Coat for the trip tabs and prop) then touch up the bottom paint. Oh, and I'll change the lower unit gear oil after it is welded

I will be in the water the first week in April. If my marina opened earlier I'd be in by next week. I'll take off this weekend and do my yardwork. It will feel great to be the first kid on the block to have all his yard work and mulch done. ?

Cleaner waxed the hull last night. I was planning on only waxing it, but upon closer inspection I decided to go the extra mile.

I then waxed the hull and topside.

Tonight I will clean the enclosure isinglass and snaps. I'll clean/treat the snaps and zippers too.

I'd do more but my left (non repaired) shoulder is on fire! All that wax on - wax off did me in last night. On the bright side my repaired shoulder and ankle feel great!

Getting closer.... ?
