Trying to put my new Weber together and not only was it damaged in shipping, and I can't get hold of customer service to decide whether to proceed or send back, but I discover I just paid an uber-premium price that I thought I had invested in an American product made by American workers when I find out the thing is made in China.

They have great customer service and warranty. Just make sure you register it,

Never had an issue with weber Im sure when you get ahold of them they will send out new parts for what ever was damaged

I've been keeping a 1980's vintage Sunbeam alive by replacing burners and other pieces for several years now. I could have just kept it alive or bought a much cheaper brand instead. We wanted a Weber because of all the good things we had heard and we thought they were still made here, hence at least double the price. I don't care how good the warranty or customer service is, it doesn't justify the cost if they're making it in the same place as the others.

This one is. I own a smaller Weber charcoal grill that I frankly only bought because it was fairly inexpensive and when I was walking through the store it caught my eye because the packaging said, in big proud letters "Made in USA." I've only used it a couple of times but I was more than happy to buy it just because it was made here.

When it came time to replace the gas grill I was willing to pay a premium, a considerable premium, for an American product. Instead, I overpaid for communist junk.

In this case I paid for what I got. Actually overpaid.

I was more than willing to pay a significantly higher price for a USA product. You have no idea how ripped off I feel.

It seems like we're missing each other's point.

I wanted a quality American-made grill. I more than understand that it's expensive to make anything here. Probably more than most of our contributors here. I was willing to pay the premium price for American workers to build me a quality grill. But I was deceived by a company that often touts their domestic product but there was no disclosure of the fact that they offshore some of their products. Had I known that, I may still have bought from them, but would have selected a Made In USA variant. I didn't pick this one because of price. I shopped the features and size grill that met my needs. I chose Weber because they're supposed to be made here. I paid twice as much as a comparable competitor's grill costs for those reasons. The warranty may be excellent, but it doesn't justify the price if they're making it overseas.

I suppose you're right about perpetual due diligence. Apparently you can't trust anybody anymore.

In my mind, no.

But yes, it's a real Weber. They're sending me a replacement for the broken part. I doubt they would do that for a counterfeit.

I really want a flattop grill, but with two smokers and two BBQ’s on the patio I think I will try the insert. Does anyone have any experience with either?
