Hello !

Hey my Friends, thinking most of you know me, Capt. Rick Smith, I run the Miss Beryl charter boat out of Long Beach, NY. Good to see this new site and I would like to wish much success - I met a lot of great people through the old NE and hope we can rekindle. Once my season starts in April I will post up reports from our fishing adventures. Until then, adios and keep em tight!

Have seen u on the waters many times over the years. I used to fish out of Jones / Debs inlets for anything that swims on my friend's boat for 10 years. Passed your boat many times in Long Beach on our way west to Debs. I think u mugged us a couple of times at Cholera/ McAllister? Wait a minute, It must have been the other way around.:) Seen your charters pull countless keepers when we were close by ?. Our mutual friend Ed35 has remarked a number of times how good your charters are. I have fished with Ed and his son Dylan on charters and party boats since Dylan was 6 or 7 years old. I used to only fish with them when Ed pulled his boat for the winter. Last year, I fished with him & Dylan on their Downeaster the Dashing Wave for fluke and black fish. We both got schooled by Dylan of course. They had an awesome trip in January down in the Keys. Welcome to this site. Ed says u r ????. Best of luck to you for your 2019 season! CIAO. John.

pics are me (the short dude)standing next to 13 year old Dylan last August on their Dashing Wave
other pics are 6 year old sharpie Dylan on the Marlin out of Montauk.

Thank you John and MoJoe for the warm welcome. John, we once fished for blacks on the Capt. Al many years ago and you caught a real slob tog and since you had no camera, I took a picture and sent to you! Ed and Dylan are two of the best fishermen I know and fly under the radar..... Dylan has been fishing with dad for many years and now can hold his own with the best of them. He captured a 13+ tog on their boat the Dashing Wave with dad locally which just missed the mark on a record for his age. Sharp fishermen and great guys. See you out there !!

OMG! It really is a small world Capt Rick! It was many years ago. If memory serves it was on a freezing icing rain day at 17 fathoms in January. Either u or another gent had a manual hand held brass spring. scale. The deck was iced over and the seas were so rough the mate had to hold us to weigh the tog. it swung between 14 and 16 lbs You never forget a personal best like that . I did not keep her.. I gave her fillets and rack to some elderly fishing friends in Long Beach. My favorite herring secret spot.
Dylan missed the NY State junior 13 year old class record for tog by 2 ounces. The first time I met Dylan and his dad Ed was on a Noreast Hampton Lady St Patricks Day Cod fish charter with Captain James Foley.. He was so cute. 6 or 7 years old walking around the boat holding his 2 nd place 20 lb cod and asked me, " U wanna see my fish?" u should also know Dylan is a terrific baseball player and an A student. Ed and Dylan's mom can be very proud .He is not a future sharpie. He's been one for many years. We need to do what ever we can to promote fishing for the young people to enjoy this healthy American pastime we love. I was so happy to attend the WM High School fishing show.Very worthy cause. It was my first time going. thanks to this site. had a great experience. i will definitely attend future WM shows. I am a volunteer staff photographer for the Captree Princess and her sister boat the Captree Pride. i sail with them year round 12 months last year. I especially take pictures of kids for the Facebook pages of the Princess and Pride. I post them on Noreast too. guess u may see them here soon on Media. Thanks for sharing. CIAO,John

Ed told me they went last time for black fish on their boat just before the season closed. they had 20 quality pieces with Dylan beating his dad with 10+, 11+ and 12-7 lbs. Dylan released all 3 of those DD tog . together they released all the blackfish except for a few for the table. Ed & Dylan remind me of Jillybird and his son Capt Wylie down in the Keys? I cannot log into Noreast anymore.. so do not know if Jillybird left the NY area? do u know anything? THNX. CIAO, John

Thank you George, Paul and Benny ! John I don't know about Jillybird and Wylie sorry. Much respect for guys that release the large tog - we try to practice this, take a quick picture and let the slobs go - smaller units taste much better. I know that Ed and Dylan just keep a few for the table and release many nice fish.
