Here'a an interesting stand-off knot

Kind of a Big Deal - In My Mind Anyway

Its really no more than a combination of the 6-turn Surgeon's Loop and the traditional dropper loop - but no dropper loop will stand off like this. A viable alternative to the "Grand Banks" knot.

Another variation:

Looks easy with braid. Will try it with mono leaders before I try it with fluoro. Thanks !

Tough to take a good photo of my attempt(s) using clear mono leader material, even in 30lb test. First was a disaster with two loops on the dropper.
Its essential to:
1. leave a good amount of tag line (like more than 18", that is for sure) and
2. when pulling the dropper loop you made first through the middle of the "wrapped around" bit that the dropper loop knot stays up tight to the
"wrap around" bit.
Not sure if with mono or fluoro leader material its really going to stay straight out much better than a "typical" dropper loop, but I could definitely see how with other line material it would work really well.

I tried with 50# mono for a cod/haddock rig. The first time everything went smooth and easy until I finished and there was a 1/2" gap between the 2 knots! The next 2 worked good. I used more turns in the 2nd knot on my 3rd try and it looked better, I hope the fish like it too. I'll try with lighter line another day.
