Took my boys out Sunday and Monday
Jones inlet aweful on the out going both days
Sunday fished angler all day with dropper loop hi lo rigs with clams had some short fluke loads of. Seabass that had to go back and 4 keepers to 17.5 inches. Had a porgy and some Chubb mackerel as by catch.
Today we started at Hempstead reef, that stunk and then hit cholera bank for a slow pick for the first hr of the incoming. Ended up back at angler banks hutch was much slower than yesterday. We did grab a keeper fluke amongst a few shorts Bucktail jigging and using the chicken rigs again . Water temps were up between 68&69 today. Got the week off and of course the weather will be poor for getting out smh

Thanks for the report, it would seem Seabass has been spanked hard since the NY opening. Been hearing an awful lot about a bunch of shorts coming up. Have to put in a mighty effort to bring home a few for dinner.

There’s no shortage of fish that’s for sure but the late opening in ny compared to all surrounding states is not helping. The larger fish are already deep by the time we open, and for recreational fishemen the 15 inch size is just too much , and on top of it if you do run deep to find good size fish only three is what you can keep for most of the summer, really does make the prospect of long runs for good fishing less appealing. We need 14 inch size limit at most and 10 fish bag limit with an earlier opening like the first week of May. That would take some strain off fluke early in the year and we can actually have some variety during the spring not just fishing bass or over pressuring the fluke all season until the end .

Even if the NY Seabass season opened the same date as the CT season I think that would make a big difference. Still don't understand the creel issues in NY waters, the fishery certainly does not seem to be in trouble. 3 fish at 15" almost the whole summer is frustrating to say the least.

Agreed , the stock is over built and expanding north and east. Even to the south they’re spreading. Destructive to all species. We need to see some liberalizing of the regulations soon
