Hot Fluke Setups 2021/2022

Last week when I was packing for my last trip that episode was airing ( not sure if original or rerun) , but it was shortly after our discussion so it once again reinforced your suggestion of the Game J for me for local and out there. Just need to get to a shop which will happen this weekend. Pretty motivating viewing material before a trip lol.

This thread was supposed to be for all to discuss what they were rolling with for the new season. Let’s hear it Gents…
As you saw in the other post, I will be picking up the Black Hole Charter Special. That's it for now

Melt down…

Purchased a Black Hole CB med to take a look at and keeping it for fishing partner. At same time staggered ordered one for me, but it’s going back as I don’t like the length of the grip and reel seat…

Online ordered Shimano Game type J in heavy for the shoals to get it here for some trips , but have been searching shops trying to get hands on one and everyone is out. Today found a Grappler J in heavy and bought it as Pete said little less nice finishes, but $100 less so still very good value in a great rod. So will cancel online order for Game J.

Shimano at 5’6” seems very short to me even after using SP rods for the last 2 years around 6–6’6”. Just ordered Jigging World Shogun blank to build in MH in SP layout with longer butt etc. have notification on for when BHCB come in again too to test. Can build better and cheaper. Prob chop down to 7’3” or … depending on what my deflection board /numbers etc show me. Decisions decisions.

Heavy Grappler might go back and just stick with an old Seeker, Rod Geek, or Lami until one of these is built .

Always evolving hahaha and sometimes too much and too fast, thank god for plastic.

The trick I tried late season last year was to tie a mini swim shad on a 2-3 ft leaders 12-18 inches above the bucktail and add a trailer hook to the long gulp baits. The swim shad caught a lot of fish that would usually only nip at the bigger baits and the majority of the fish on 6 inch grubs were caught on the trailer hook. Saved a lot of gulp that way.

Here is the Ocea Conquest next to an Ocea Jigger 1501pg and a Daiwa Catalina for size…

LG - you certainly like “the good stuff!”
I sold off some stuff and like I said and like to try new things so I don’t feel bad about it. Have been an Ocea Jigger guy since the early mid 2000’s when I was able to get a used one from JDM market. Hooked ever since.

Upgraded to the new ones in the last few years with some OT and other sell offs. Any reel in the OJ lineage I will have an appreciation for to an extent, especially if it fits into the mix legitimately .

Life health derives from relaxation and destressing … this is a part of my plan.

Obv a bit much for normal flukin, but might be fun on the shoals right!
