LIVE: Hurricane Helene becomes Category 4 hours away from Florida landfall​


Helene intensified into a Category 4 hurricane hours before making landfall in Florida late on Thursday. Storm surge is already roaring ashore across Florida as the monster storm intensifies.

* At 859 PM EDT, National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated
extreme winds, associated with the eyewall of Hurricane Helene,
were moving onshore 39 miles southeast of Carrabelle, moving north
at 35 mph. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND LIFE-THREATENING
SITUATION!

Tallahassee, Woodville, Monticello, Mayo, Steinhatchee, St. Marks,
Perry, Madison, Horseshoe Point, Wakulla, Greenville, Lee,
Horseshoe Beach, Alma, Cody, Pinetta, Perry-Foley Airport, San
Pedro Junction, Natural Bridge, and Lake Miccosukee.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

TAKE COVER NOW! Treat these imminent extreme winds as if a tornado
was approaching and move immediately to the safe room in your
shelter. Take action now to protect your life!

The safest place to be during a major landfalling hurricane is in a
reinforced interior room away from windows. Get under a table or
other piece of sturdy furniture. Use mattresses, blankets or pillows
to cover your head and body. Remain in place through the passage of
these life-threatening conditions.
 
HELENE MAKES LANDFALL IN THE FLORIDA BIG BEND...

Based on NWS Doppler radar data, the eye of Helene has made landfall
as a Category 4 hurricane in the Florida Big Bend region at about
11:10 PM EDT (0310 UTC) just east of the mouth of the Aucilla
River. This is about 10 miles (15 km) west-southwest of Perry,
Florida. Based on data from Air Force reconnaissance aircraft, the
maximum sustained winds are estimated to be 140 mph (225 km/h) and
the minimum central pressure is 938 mb (27.70 inches).

There are currently 3 systems I am watching now.I am concerned with the one entering the gulf of Mexico. Two systems will become Hurricanes later this week. Next update with these systems is when they become named storms.
 
Captain Kirk has become a hurricane only impacts will be swells next week. This is the last update. This is the system going into the gulf next week.
