curious if the location it started in is a "common" place that hurricanes form? Seems odd maybe @Bassmaster can chime in on my question?

yes. curious how common it is for them to start in the western section of the gulf, and then head towards florida.

Interesting: found some historical data for western gulf. I sorted by hurricanes (not tropical storms) going back to 1970 and this is these show the path of each

doesnt look like the start in the western gulf than go east to florida.
