That was the official terminology for Sandy as well if I’m not mistakenToo funny, the meteorologists have dubbed Lee with a new title, "Post-Tropical Storm" even though it's still packing hurricane force winds. Apparently it just means since it's over water cooler than what's considered tropical, it gets that name.

I dont think Insurance companies get to name or classify storms LOLI believe you are correct. It probably had something to do with insurance companies being able to limit their liability since it was still a "named storm."
No, BUT some policies have sneaky language regarding the classification of the storm at landfall. I clearly remember the "fight" over whether it was declared a hurricane or a tropical storm upon landfall. Good reminder to pull your policy and really review the mostly small print, and if you have a broker, discuss with them. They get very squeamish when you ask for an explanation of the language in the policy.I dont think Insurance companies get to name or classify storms LOL
