After an initial shakedown cruise 2 weeks back, and a few short togs, the DREWSCREWS was back in action this Sunday with fellow Amigo Fish4Me aboard.

Only 1 of the 4 fingers at the ramp was accessible at 7am, with full moon dead low. Motored out toward Eatons and already found the fleet building and trolling. We joined them around the 13 can and sent out the mojos trolled with braid. I'm not a big fan of trolling and really haven't done it much so I was trying to get a technique down. We would put the motors in gear, drop down and let them hit bottom, hold, hit bottom again, hold, and hit one more time. I felt like the baits were swimming higher in the water column. Next time I will try just using 1 motor to slow us down some more. We saw plenty of other fish being boated, and lots of life on the screen.

The larger of the two mojos finally got bit with gps showing 3.3 kts. John wrestled the fish that seemed like it was out there a country mile. Feisty bass did not like the boat or the net. Made us look like rookies trying to get her aboard, but she finally plopped on deck and measured a still legal for the time being 34 inches. Sent the baits back out and trolled up to 11B up and down the reef.

After more trolling, we switched up and drifted a simple bucktail and gulp. Right away, I came tight to what became a 26 inch bass. Glad for the fight, and sent it back to get bigger. Odd current as I was expecting to drift super fast, but the wind kept us fairly stationary. Once we made it to the other side of the reef, I managed a very nice knothead black sea bass that went back.

I noticed the fleet growing north of 11B, so I motored to find lots of action and constant hookup along the slopes with everyone drifting and tossing flutter spoons. We gave the buck tails a shot, but the bass wanted those flutter spoons. Time to spend more money on tackle I guess. It was comical seeing 5 high dollar large center consoles with multiple high horsepower motors almost playing bumper boats trying to get on top of the action.

We tried trolling a different area for nada, and then gave fluke a half hearted try as the tide was dying. Incase anyone was worried, the sea robins have arrived. Called it a day with a fish to fillet back at the house. Could not ask for a nicer way to spend a beautiful Sunday.
