Got out after work with the girls. Broke the inlet @6pm...flat calm, end of the incoming. Gave a spot close by the ramp for 10 mins, nada.
Went to the mini fleet around Eatons Neck, and found the water just starting the outgoing. Set the trolling motor and drifted the reef for 1/2 hour managing a few bites and one keeper fluke at 20 inches.
Sun going down, and tide picking up, we set out in 60 ft of water and sent the chunks down. Didn't take more than 10 mins for the fish to come knocking. First bass managed to evade the hook, but the next three came to the boat...all "overs" at 33, 36 and 38 inches. The 33 put up a great fight..for a while I though it was a big blue, but was just an ornery feisty bass. We missed two other fish, but the baits came back without teeth marks.
At one point we got hit by a freight train. The reel exploded to life, picked it up and the fish went on a long fast run. Then it switched direction and went under the boat at a ridiculous speed where we got to feel the weight of the fish. It literally pulled us from one side of the boat to the other with ease. A moment later the line snapped at the 60 lbs leader close to the hook. Wish we got to see if it was a massive monster blue, although blues tend to zig zag and come up quickly and dance on top....or something bigger and toothy.
Great night making memories.
