Got out Sunday AM with my daughter Ally, Fish4Me, and buddy Billy. Dropped in at 7:30 and cruised the flat LIS to the Sheffield area. Set the spot lock on a 15 ft hang.
Green crabs were instantly hammered every drop down. I was able to use a 1oz jig as the incoming was just starting. Within minutes, a quick tap and thump and my line took off away from the boat zig zagging all over. I thought I had a blue or bass on, amazed at the speed this fish had but it soon settled into those awesome thumps as it took drag trying to get back down. John slipped the net under my big fish of the day, a heathy male at 19 inches.
As the morning wore on, everyone managed a keeper in between the constant action of shorts as the spot we were in kept getting crowded and the tide really started to pull.
After an hour of countless shorts and heavier lead to keep on the bottom, I made the call to head to the LI side.
Past by the parking lot known as 11b and settled in an area east of Eatons that had a handfull of boats on anchor. We settled in at 35 feet with much less current. Back to fishing light with jigs and as we built up more life as the fish started small but got progressively bigger. The crew pulled two more keepers from this area until we had to call it a day at 1pm, knowing we were leaving them biting.
Amazing day all around with family, friends, fishing and weather.
