Did it again on sunday with some good friends. We got out @10am and the LIS was a bit confused as the incoming was still pushing with the decent west wind, alittle sloppy but not bad. I thought about going across but with last weekends big fish fest over here, I settled on the LI side at 40 feet.
Crabs went down, fish came up, just a great bite and we measured so many 15 inch fish until Rich finally had a no doubter at 18 inches at slack tide. He followed it up shortly after with a 19 incher, both on rigs. The action never waned and I finally had one touch the 16 inch mark, along with two others from my crew. By 2pm the outgoing was full moon ripping along with that west wind @15 kts. This proved to be too much for the trolling motor to handle as it came off the spot a few times.
So we went "old school" and dropped the hook, and first shot we ended up exactly where I wanted too...the guys said, "well you still got it" We kept fishing the spot for another 1/2 hour and even though we had great structure and plenty of bites, the fish weren't getting any bigger.
So we let up on the anchor and dropped back @60 feet, but we were about 30 feet north of where I wanted to be so I used the trolling motor to move us south while the anchor was holding us and we progressively moved towards good bottom. The bites picked back up, and for a brief 10 minute window we got 3 more nice keepers in the box before the kids came back out to play.
Ended the day with 8 keepers and made more memories with friends.
Water temps were 55 degrees. Hope to keep this going through Thanksgiving weekend.
