We were thankful to be given one more chance this past weekend with BlackFish Friday.
Got out with Tommy and JJ, and had to be careful as I was loading the boat as the Thanksgiving rain turned to ice and made the deck challenging in the dark as I prepped the boat for the 8am leave.
Once we got underway, I had plans to head to mid sound at 11B after hearing the fish went deeper as the temps cooled. Half way out, I changed my mind as I didn't want to get beat up trying to fish with the stiff west wind. So I went back to my old reliable spot in 40 ft that is somewhat sheltered. That proved to be a good choice as the fish were waiting for our green crabs. Second fish hooked and Tommy is calling for the net which turned out to be our big fish of the day at 18 inches. We had a nice steady bite going as the wind totally dropped out. As we notice how much the sound laid down and start discussing if we should move to the middle, all three of us get hit with nice fish, a pair of 15's and my 16 incher which quickly squashed that idea. Tommy had one more nice 17 inch keeper hit the deck just before the fan turned back on, and we were glad we didn't move as the white caps quickly formed and we decided to call it a day at noon, happy with the consistent bite we had the entire time.
I was hoping for another final shot on sunday, but I just couldn't make it happen. Looking at this weeks forecast with high temps barely breaking the 40's, and considering the water temps was 51 degrees, I think it's time to wrap up the very nice season we had and happy with the fishing, and more importantly a safe boating season that had no major breakdowns or hiccups.
