Got out early Sat AM with my daughter Ally for her belated Bday trip, along with her bf JJ, his sister Courtney, and my son Andrew.
Broke the inlet at 7am and took the ride across the 2-3 foot LIS with the NW 15-20 wind. Much nicer conditions on the CT side of course, and first stop was the Sherwood Pt area in 20 ft. Tons of structure and lots of fish, but nothing of size. We spent an hour there jogging around a bit with the trolling motor trying to find some better fish. We then moved to the Cockenoe harbor area for another hour with better fish at 10 feet, but nothing to break the min size. Courtney who hasn't fished since last season with us was surprisingly very good at hooking tog, and was very vocal about letting her brother know he was getting out fished. We made one more move to the Sheffield area and again had great action in 15 feet, but everything was still lacking in size, Lots of other boats in this area, and we might have seen 1-2 keepers come up in an hour. I finally had enough of feeding the small fish and made the call to head back across and fish the LI side, hoping the waves weren't too bad.
Halfway across the LIS, I noticed the waves were not bad at all, and by the time we were just east of Eatons I was pleasantly surprised at how relatively calm it was. Motored around a bit and found some nice bottom and set the spot lock at 30 feet. Again, instant action, and within 5 minutes, my son is dehooking a keeper. I followed suit ten minutes later with our 2nd keeper, and the trip officially became a success once the birthday girl got her own 17 incher soon after. The action didn't die and the chops were really getting busted once Courtney thumped the big fish of the day at 18 inches on the deck. By now the wind and waves had really dropped out and it was a blue bird afternoon. JJ became super focused and the cursing reached new levels on every swing and miss, and of fish that broke off his line. We ended the day when he landed a keeper size black in the box.
Alot of fun and memories made.

Sundays weather was just too nice to pass up, so my son and I as well as my neighbor took the remaining crabs back to the scene of the crime for a quick 2 hour trip. Tons of action again, but this time a lot more porgies, and a few very close 15 3/4 togs that went back. We finished the crabs and went home with a few large porgies. No complaints with t shirt toggin in late October.

Can not complain about the first three weekends of the season weather wise. Water temps were right at 60 degrees.
