My son got called out of work early Saturday AM, and proceeded to twist my arm to get on the water, knowing that he was headed back to Maritime on Sunday.
The weather wasn’t great with a steady NE 10-15 and outgoing tide making the LIS sloppy around Eatons Neck. We tried for fluke for a while there with just an occasional tug on the pink shine gulps.
We moved further east just past the point and ran into diving birds feasting on sand eels or spearing…too small to tell with the waves. He tossed top water and I bottom fished as we drifted through for another half hour with nothing hitting, so we pushed a little further east to a small reef before the ramp.
There were a couple of boats porgy fishing there, and they were into fish but Andrew wanted a fluke, so we set the trolling motor down and created a drift with the dying outgoing and wind blowing the opposite direction.
We finally found some life with bites at 30 feet. I marked some nice structure where the bites were coming from and re drifted the area multiple times as we found some decent fluke. We boated 8 fish, with 2 of them being keepers at 22 and 21 inches, first fluke for us in the Sound. We also managed back to back keeper sized weeks on the same drift right before we called it a day at noon with previous plans later in the afternoon: Back at the house I let him take care of the fish while I cleaned the boat. Kid did a nice job on his first time filleting both fluke and weakfish.
