If you care about striped bass management . . . .

Well that’s the end for me bass fishing for now, we have had maybe two fish in the last six trips in that slot range everything has been 32” 35” slots or over the slot, will target fluke and sea bass which has also increased in size 16.5 now and even porgies are 10.5 putting a hurting on the recreational guys

Hey nucks,

Thanks for the update. You babe better odds at a lottery ticket. So when we knock off this year class, what's next?
As I mentioned on last Friday's trip, when we catch too many, we are told we are overfishing so we must cut back. Then when we catch too few, they say the stocks are in trouble so we must cut back!? Sounds like a 'lose-lose" situation for the fisherman.

This action was to protect the 2015 Year Class, one of the best ever. The next "GOOD" class is 2017 which is all the 24" fish we're catching. I'd bet ASMFC will be a little more aggressive in protecting these as they enter whatever slot is on the table at that time.

As of 2017, the YOY surveys have been pretty miserable, especially the last 4-5 years, with the rumor that 2023 will also be very poor, so look for extreme reductions to continue and possibly get more Draconian...

Based on one year's worth of data, this decision was made. Personally, I view it as an anomaly rather than an urgent matter. I only wish I had the same level of confidence in the accuracy of these figures as you do. We all understand that they are essentially a gamble, like flipping a coin. Now, am I expected to believe that our ability to tally numbers is so impeccable that we can target a specific year class of fish? Take a moment to consider that. We supposedly possess such exceptional counting skills when it comes to fish—oh, but wait, we don't actually count the fish themselves, we measure them in pounds—and yet we claim to know the precise size of fish we can catch within a three-inch range.

I intend to express these sentiments in a podcast. Let me tell you, the recreational fishing industry in NYS is facing grave difficulties. I couldn't care less about what the other coastal regions did, but imposing this decision on the industry without allowing them adequate time to prepare speaks volumes about the regard they hold for us.

The Democrats hate small businesses they want them to collapse. Do your part and vote them out and vote conservative. This is the only way this gets resolved. Vote Democrat and this will continue to no end.
