Rhode Island has approved the first effort to protect trophy tog. They will now fish on a 16-21 inch slot for blackfish, with one over 21 inches. Bag limits change according to Season.

I asked this question when we decided on the bass slot. Will we do this with fluke? Bluefish? Weakfish?

IF they decided to emulate FL, which loves slots, then yes. I know you're a real fan of them, NOT...

Unless commercial folks follow suit, these slots seem pretty meaningless, unless commercial quotas are much smaller than the recreational ones, as is the case with stripers...

A slot limit might be worth a try. Not many keepers the last few years.

HOWEVER, the commercial fisherman would have to abide by the same slot limit.

Not two sets of rules, one for recs, one for commercials

People have been slamming the fish in Rhode Island.

Wishful thinking on the comms

I totally agree that should a slot become the regs they would have to be across the board. I actually think that could Be accomplished.

I don’t know all the science about my favorite fish, but females from 12”-21” I think are the prime egg producing sizes/ages. The 21” female produces thousands of more eggs than the 12” female does. So, I think we need to think more about limiting how many females we take than just discussion about a slot. just my 2 cents

As for George's first post herein, I am in favor of slots for weaks and fluke. Bluefish already has a 3 fish limit, snappers included.
