It has begun.............

longcast

Well-Known Angler
My wife and I took a walk down in Patchogue last night and ended up at Drift 82 to see some locals coming out of hibernation. Wind was at least 15 steady with some increase/decrease mixed in. Jumped on the phone and noticed the wind was going to drop out and temperature would stay rather mild. Hmmm.

Came home and made a quick run to the garage and rummaged through my mess to get one outfit put together along with a bucket of a few items for a quick morning jaunt to one of my memory spots. Got there around 3:45 A.M. and got to work. Water chilly, real lack of wind, tide meh, but knew that already. Kept at it for a bit, noting in the first spot.

Made a move to another spot and at least saw some bait, nothing concentrated so started casting around. I threw offerings from 1/4 oz and up. Nothing. Put on something I thought was rather big, but why not, I had not even a bump at that time.

I was starting to lose concentration and as the lure moved through a strike zone the bump happens and a miss. Damn!! Wake up and pay attention. That was tough as it was a gorgeous morning. Couple more casts and this little guy ended up on the end of my line. Fight was short as I think he was choking trying to get the bait completely down his gullet.

I went home, cleaned up and now sit at work in the right frame of mind!
