Jamaica Bay

Had a interesting day today in the bay. Had short fluke and blues. So I decided to make a drift by the Crossbay bridge, while on the drift I hear yelling and a splash coming from the bridge and see someone in the water and young girl tried to kill herself. Seatow tried to help her but they couldn’t get her in the boat so me and my buddy tried to get her on my swim platform she still was fighting us and we couldn’t hold on to her any longer she broke free and luckily the NYFD boat just pulled up and managed to get her in the boat. Hope this never happens again. The NYFD did a great job saving her.

Good on you for trying! I've had that occur a couple of times on the job, where a jumper tries to evade help and keeps trying to jump in front of a train. I'm surprised she picked that bridge, I know kids in the area would jump off of it on a dare to pick someone up. Nice to know the NYFD is docked in the area, I always missed seeing the USCG when they were docked by Floyd Bennett and have wondered where the closest LEO/rescue boat is now. (And the guys who run out to chase folks from the radar pier don't count! LOL)
