Last Tog trip of the season

On Wednesday 12/01/21 I was invited to fish In Montauk on the charter boat Professional Cryer. Capt Steve took a few of his friends and good customers out for the final trip of the season before his boat got pulled. We started out in a spot not far from the dock and had some very short fish . The Captain made the call to go to Block and it really paid off. Conditions were sporty to say the least , we had 6-8ft swells a good portion of the day with steady 15-20 mph winds. We dropped anchor with an ebbing tide and the fish immediately started chewing. We were in about 65ft of water and with the conditions being as they were, I quickly switched from my spinning set up with a jig ,to my conventional set up. I always prefer using a jig for blackfish but I did manage a few small keepers on the spinner before retiring it for the day.
Good call by the Captain , the move to Block paid dividends , we had a 6 man boat limit by about 11 :30 a.m. with fish up to 9lbs . There were plenty of fish in the 6-8 lb range as well.
A few Cod and Seabass came over the rail as well.

So in conclusion , we had a plenty of laughs, plenty of fish, and good company. You can’t ask for more out of a fishing trip especially the last one of the season.

Grateful to Capt. Steve for the invite.
Have a Happy & Healthy Holiday Season

That sounds like the perfect season-ender. Well, not the 6-8 foot part :) In most cases we don't get the chance to pick the last day, the weather does that for us. PIcking the day and having the fun and as you put it "plenty of laughs, plenty of fish, and good company" is what fishing is all about.

Now that's a trip that really requires determination. Congrats for toughing it out and putting together a great catch.
Thanks Mike. It’s funny,
I never get seasick and I was fine all day while we fished but while we were wrapping up ,I was helping skinning the fillets and I got a bit queasy . Not sure if it was because I was looking down while I was skinning and the boat was yawing pretty good but I definitely got a bit sea sick . Once we got underway back home I felt better though.
