Tugs and Barges have specific 'unspoken' shipping lanes in the Sound ... That Western Sound Weather Buoy lies right in the middle of a heavily trafficked shipping lane ... .. 1/2 north or so would be a wee bit smarter ...........Right now they all are listed as " buoy has been hauled for winter maintenance and is OFFLINE.
Expected redeployment is early Spring, 2019."
Anyone know University of Conn definition of early spring?
Love checking those bouys !
It's all who you knowI’m happy to report back I received a quick response. Please see below:
“Good Morning Ben -
The Central Sound buoy should be going out on Thursday this week, weather permitting, followed by Execution Rocks 2-3 weeks after (so near end of April, beginning of May), and Western Sound buoy about 3 weeks after that... (mid-late May). We know the buoys are heavily used resource recreationally (and commercially), during the summer and we're working hard to get them all back out there. We hauled them due to the potential damage from winter ice (not really an issue this year apparently) and while in, did a lot of overhauling and maintenance.
Best,
-Kay.

I know they’re online because I have Buoycast app and it’s tied into these buoys.I don't know ..... the date on your screen capture says 01/17/2019 ? I just checked and mine still says 02/05/2019. The main page on their website does say they are online ??
App is great.Ok ..... I just check on my laptop. I'll look for that app, thanks !
